Don’t forget, you can pick up a copy of The Ashtead & Leatherhead Local magazine from Ashtead and Leatherhead libraries, as well as the customer service desk of Sainsbury’s Leatherhead.

The Ashtead & Leatherhead Local started with its first edition in October 2005. It has a free to receive, door-to-door circulation of 10,000 copies directly into homes in Ashtead, Leatherhead, Fetcham and Langley Vale. Its aims are three-fold: Firstly, to provide the local community with news and information on what’s going on in the area; secondly, to ensure that our local charities and organisations get their message across to readers, ensuring excellent, free of charge exposure to help them raise much-needed funds (this is why around 30-40% of the magazine is given to them); and, thirdly, to provide local businesses with value for money advertising to ensure that the community is aware of the services that they provide and to ‘keep trade local’, ensuring that our community continues to thrive.

The Publisher, Zen George, who works on the magazine on her own, is also an ex-retailer of some 27 years, working for such prestigious names as Burberry, The Scotch House, Armani, Valentino, Christian Dior, Moss Bros, Simpson Piccadilly and Guerlain, and, as a result, really understands business and offers free business support and advice to those who request it.

Zen was also a Director of the Leatherhead & District Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber’s remit is to support and promote local businesses, the magazine being an excellent vehicle with which to do this. As a point of difference from other publications, The Ashtead & Leatherhead Local is driven by passion and not solely for profit, thereby all advertisers and charities immediately notice, and feel the benefit, of being in this community-led magazine.
